The Waukesha Creative Arts League (WCAL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts and fostering connections among local artists. As an active member since 2021, I recognized an opportunity to improve the league’s digital presence when the existing website, originally built by a member’s spouse, became unusable after losing its domain.
I volunteered to design and build a new website for the organization, as no other members had web design or development experience. Using Wix, I created a modern, user-friendly site focused on attracting and informing prospective members. The new site highlights who WCAL is, what the group does, what meetings are like, and details about exhibitions and events the league sponsors.
I also implemented foundational SEO strategies to help ensure the organization could be easily found through Google search, increasing visibility to local artists searching for creative communities and opportunities.
Following the successful launch of the new site, I was appointed Website Chair. I intentionally chose Wix as the platform so future Website Chairs, regardless of technical background, could easily maintain and update the site, ensuring long-term sustainability for the organization.
The previous website primarily served existing members and offered little information for those interested in joining. The redesigned site shifts the focus toward community growth, accessibility, and clear communication, helping WCAL better connect with local artists and expand membership.
